Employee Spotlight: Alex LeRoy Published October 2, 2024

Get to know Alex LeRoy, Senior Manager of Customer Success and Account Management at Tax Guard. He drives account success by working with customers and the internal team to develop strategies for future offerings, ensuring Tax Guard provides the highest-quality services to our customers. We’ve asked him to share a bit about his background and the work he does each day.

Where did you grow up, and how did you end up in Colorado?

I was born and raised in Colorado. I grew up about 5 minutes from downtown, in Congress Park. I went to college in Fort Collins, Colorado, and I still live there today. I love it here!

How did you get involved with the small business lending and due diligence space?

Prior to Tax Guard, I worked with a company that did background checks and immunization credentialing for nursing students. I enjoyed working with the schools and the students and felt like I was making a real difference. When I researched Tax Guard and learned more about their work for the small business community, I felt a similar sense of purpose toward making an impact. I speak with our lenders daily and hear success stories of small businesses across the country, and I know that we play a small part in helping those businesses and communities thrive.

What area of your job excites you most and why?

It is really rewarding to work with different departments at Tax Guard to develop new services, initiatives, collateral, processes, etc. I love using everything I know about our different customers to shape the direction of Tax Guard. Seeing all the work that goes into developing new products and hearing the different ideas that each team has is really fun, and I love the unique challenge it brings.

What is a trend you’re currently following in the lending space?

Similar to everyone, I am watching how the interest rates are impacting and will impact lenders and small businesses in the next 6 months-2 years. Times are very challenging for businesses right now, and access to capital is more important than ever. High rates continue to put additional stress on these businesses and also make it harder for lenders to grow.

What motivates you to come to work each day?

I enjoy my work, but our team motivates me the most to show up to work with a positive attitude each day. The team we have at Tax Guard is wonderful, and the culture we have built gets me through even the hardest days. The lenders we work with are great, and I enjoy learning about their work.

“Most small business lenders are extremely passionate about the communities they are helping and being around that is infectious. Working with them and my team really makes me excited to do my work.”

What aspect of your career are you most proud of?

I got my MBA while working full time. It was a huge time commitment and one of my most challenging professional endeavors. I upheld my work product and graduated with a 3.5 GPA!

What are your passions outside of work?

I love spending time with my wife and two young sons, who are four and 18 months old. I love Colorado sports and will always stop to watch the Broncos, Nuggets, Avs, or Rockies play. I’m in a men’s basketball league and have played sports my whole life. I also love to read, specifically science fiction and fantasy.

What advice would you give to your younger self?

Relax and enjoy the ride. I was so focused on the next step of my career that I didn’t always enjoy where I was at the moment. I would remind myself that my 20s are a good time to explore and take risks, and it’s okay not to have everything together or be making six figures at 25.
